What's my life worth?

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

There is so much to unpack from these two verses alone. We live in a culture that has little regard for life. Our postmodern way of thinking has shapes us to view life through the lens of self-gratification and convenience. People willingly embrace the idea of "quality of life" to express support for abortion and euthanasia. The life of another person is treated with little respect when it is the "easier" option to take.
But, my brothers and sisters, we are not to think in this way. We are to be continually transformed by the renewing of our minds (Rom 12:1-2). Life is, and has always been, a gift from God. Our lives are no longer ours to live but it is Jesus who lives in us. We are worthy of God's love, not because of anything we deserve. Jesus regarded our lives as so precious that He willingly gave Himself for us. If this does not make you fall down in praise, let me state it even more plainly. God was willing to sacrifice the Son whom He dearly loved for your sake whether or not you chose to accept Him (Rom 5:8).
This is the value that God places on each life. And the promise is here for us to take hold of: it is not through our own strength or power that we can walk with Jesus. It is purely through relying on Him that we are able to live out the abundant life He promised. Let us ask Him for the same unconditional love that He shows to us, that we might demonstrate this to others. If you're struggling with thoughts and attitudes from your old nature, be encouraged that you've been given supernatural power through Christ to live out this life as an offering to Him. Will you choose to trust your life to Him, no matter what may befall you today?
