How far will you go for the one?

In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!

In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”
“So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.

Today, I'd like us to focus on the verses above, which taken from 3 of Jesus' parables, the parable of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son. I'd highly encourage you to read through the whole chapter to get the gist of what Jesus is saying here, but here are a few observations and lessons that I've come across while studying this passage.
First, the value of what is being lost seems to increase. The final story is about a son who is lost, which is far more precious in value than a sheep. Every lost person is valuable to God. So valuable, in fact, that He gave up the most precious person Jesus for your sake and mine.
Second, Jesus seems to be honing in on the heart of the matter: He's concerned about finding the lost one. The numbers decrease from one hundred sheep to focusing on two sons.
In the same way, my brothers and sisters, how far will you go for the one? People travel vast distances for the sake of human love. How about the same for the sake of showing God's love? What if God has brought you into a place with supposedly dead end prospects only to reach out to one person? The one whom God dearly loves?
Success for the Christian is not about how many people you can bring to Jesus. That's not the way the Father thinks. His heart is for the one who is lost and desires greatly that he be found. How far will you go in prayer for the sake of the one? Let's spend some time today in prayer asking in faith and thanksgiving for the salvation of one person whom God has laid on your heart today.
